Adecar is the tale of a courageous little girl from Africa. She and her parents are kidnapped and taken as slaves by Captain OneShoe. When the pirate ship sinks, Adecar is rescued by two pelicans and becomes marooned on an island. The pelicans and creatures of the ocean treat her as one of their own. When the pirates discover the island and try to take the island children as slaves, Adecar uses her wits and works with her ocean friends to save the day.
